Business Marketing Success | Purple Cow Social Media Marketing | leemanning.co.uk

Website marketing purple cowEver seen a purple cow?

Truth is, in business marketing terms – you probably have seen a purple cow marketing method – though you might not yet realise it.

Being a purple cow could be the secret to your business’s marketing success.

The term ‘purple cow’ was coined by the marketing guru Seth Godin – he even dedicates a whole book to it.
It simply refers to the effect your business can achieve when you make a full-hearted effort to ‘stand out’ from your competition – purple cows stand out, right?

If you saw a purple cow in a field, would you stop to take a look?  Would you do any of the following?

  • Tell your friends?
  • Share it via social networks?
  • Take a picture?
  • Think about it later that day?

How would you feel if people felt the urge to do this with your business?

Today’s marketing is full of black and white cows!

If you can seek ways to become the purple cow, you can take advantage of an engaged, interested audience, who will in-turn actively share your company with their friends and followers through the social networks.  This means more exposure!

Being a purple cow isn’t as difficult as you may think – and you don’t have to sacrifice an ounce of professionalism to gain the result you’re looking for.  Think about what you can do differently that will stand out.

Be ready to accept that you might have to face facts that your product offering needs enhancement in order to truly stand out!

Here’s an example of a business standing out from the norm and the success it brings!

Toms Shoes | toms.com

Shoe shops are a great example of how a business can  often blend in like the traditional black and white cow.  But tom’s is a ‘purple cow’.

With every pair of shoes you purchase, Toms shoes will give a pair to a child in need.  During its first year in business, TOMS sold 10,000 pairs of shoes.

So what could you do TODAY that will make your business stand out?

Bye for now,

Lee Manning
